Name: DJShay aka Shay Norrie aka Nozza
If music was an animal, what would it be and why?
Bitza (mixed dog breed). A bit of everything with genre being there unique personalities
If you had a banana, 2 left ankle socks and a dwarf, where would you take them and what would you do?
To the rubbish tip. Next Question!
What has been your biggest inspiration during your dance music career?
10 years as DJShay and still inspired and now hopefully inspiring…
Mystrongest dance inspiration present & past stem not surprisingly from our rich and expanding source of local Auckland/NZ talent: Soane, Bevan Keys, Tim Phin, Terry Wizz, Fast Crew, Sirvere, Antiform, Shapeshifter, Phully, Subware, Dick Magic Johnson, Grant Marshall, Concord Dawn, Dan Clarke, Peter Urlich, Phillipa, Jolyon Petch, Rob Salmon, David White, Chelsea, English Breakfast Crew, Paul Jones and
everyone else I’ve met along the way. Man I could fill this whole page…
I’ve always had a strong passion for music even at a young age listening and making mix tapes, Michael Jackson, Led Zep, The Beach Boys; In College I was a ‘metaller’. Metallica, Nirvana, S.O.D, Suicidal Tendencies, Mega Death. But I’ve always been diverse.
DJShay Quote: If you’re too narrow minded about the music, ya miss out. If it soundz good, let it roll.
Myfirst experiences in the dance scene though: Underground at Calibre Nightclub back in 97; dark, dirty & deep. The most stand-out memory
was shortly after me 20th. Manual Bundy on DJ when ‘Hello’ Nathan Haynes instruments in-hand pops down unannounced. I said to my town
buddy Kirsty, “Nathan looks like he’s even brought horn action!! WOW!” Manuel, the electronic band and Nathan Haynes making those horns sing.
Now with solid ties within the dance community, radio, TV and production I find myself surrounded by these amazing personalities, DJs, club
owners, promoters, producers. DJing, radioing with all the ups & downs, it’s still all about the music- when you can see an “In-Command DJ” working the mixer, working the crowd, having fun and just laying it down, that to me is equally as exciting as being the DJ at a packed out night. It’s all on a level par.
Fielding the feed back on live-2-air radio: Rocking out on my guitar. Over-dressing for dance-party production. Music really affects me in a lot of ways which is why I’ll add that my tastes most definitely span further than dance music…
Music is the inspiration and better than the most addictive drug available… Hell yeah
