If music was an animal, what would it be and why?
Cuttlefish. Because they are the chameleon of the sea, mysterious and highly adaptable. For communication, their skin flashes a fast changing pattern.
If you had a banana, 2 left ankle socks and a dwarf, where would you take them and what would you do?
I would photograph them and list them all on Trademe.
What has been your biggest inspiration during your dance music career?
There has been no single thing that i can sum up. Except perhaps for maybe music as a whole. I have had an interest in music from an early age and it’s most likely held my fascination ever since because of its ever changing format and flexibility. Flexibility is vital.
When i was 8 or 9 my older brother had Beat Street tapes and a Michael Jackson zipper jacket – how freaking cool was he? Not much later after watching Solid Gold i rushed out and bought all the Talking Heads tapes i could find. It was my first music purchase and a fine road to nowhere.
Even before “dance” music my attraction to music was the same. There wasn’t really any noticeable line crossing from rock or whatever to dance and these days the line is totally blurred. Electronic music has cycled back picking up elements from most other styles to form all sorts of cross genre mash ups.
There were moments in my music history where a single gig would blow my mind and impact greatly on my direction – Public Image Ltd, Faith No More, Infectious Grooves were all pre dance highlights.
When I bored of guitars I flirted with the likes of Prodigy and Rave before finding Techno in the form of Jeff Mills, The Advent and Richie Hawtin! The list is huge but id filter those three out as being my greatest dance music inspirations to date.
Sander B Bio:
I have been into music as long as I can remember. I started collecting Techno records in 1999 and played them as often as I could on other peoples gear until I sorted my own set up a few years later. I find Techno the dance genre that fits me best. From tribal, to dance floor slammers to minimal Techno, its wide open.
I first began playing on UP FM in 2003 when i guested on Hans show back when UP FM had a Ponsonby Rd zip code. I guested regularly for the first few years before becoming co-host.
I have dj’d around at the usual Techno haunts over the years even though I have taken a back seat approach to dj’ing at clubs or parties. Sometimes I play, sometimes I don’t.
I have guested at other radio stations but no one gets to the nuts and bolts of dance music like UP FM does. I’m happy to call UP FM my home ground.

If music was an animal, what would it be and why?
I guess it would be a cat, cos cats are my favourite animal. Or a dragon cos they’re mythical and awesome, and my Chinese zodiac sign… BOOYAA
If you had a banana, 2 left ankle socks and a dwarf, where would you take them and what would you do?
WTF? Guess I could eat the banana, wear the socks and have dwarf do my bidding, bad stuff like stealing etc.
What has been your biggest inspiration during your dance music career?
